Crunchy, sweet, fruity, healthy, addictive.
The only thing stopping me from munching on them all day is the time.
So those cravings you have for crisps? No? Well lets pretend you do….. these will satisfy them! I mean, they are after all crisps – just not potato. They’re apple. Duh, Apple Crisps! 1 ingredient Apple Crisps! Yay!
I’m not gonna lie and tell you they can replace all crisps, but they’re different to the usual and don’t require much effort on your part except for the quality of patience. And even if you’re not patient, you cant really eat these until they’re done, halfway through and they’ll just be chewy.
So you’ll just have to wait. Ha ha.
And if you still want some potato crisps, enjoy them side by side with these 🙂
This recipe is also really good for using up apples that have gotten soft. If the flavours nice but they’re kinda mushy, well, be gone mushiness!
*there’s no calories for this one because it depends on which apples you use, how large etc. But nothing magical happens in the oven so however many calories were in the raw apple at the start, will stay the same, just not the mass of the apples. Divide by as many portions you want and sit back and munch!
Apples (whichever you prefer)
Optional: Cinnamon, Sugar (if the apples are sweet forget sugar)
Preheat your oven to Gas Mark 1/135°C/275°F.
Wash those apples!
With a mandolin slicer or sharp knife, slice the apples into small rounds, you don’t need to de-core or peel them or anything.
Place the apple thins on a baking sheet/tray and sprinkle with cinnamon and/or sugar if you wish.
Place in an oven for 1 1/2 – 2 hours, turning the apples over half way through.
Once the time is up take them out and let them sit for about 5-10 minutes, to let them cool down and crisp up further (they’ll probably still have a little chewiness to them while hot).
Enjoy on their own or with a dip of your choice. I recommend toffee/caramel for a toffee apple treat! On their own though they’re delicious too…..
Hope you enjoyed today’s post guys. What’s your favourite flavour of crisps? I don’t have one but I love sweet chilli and BBQ flavours, and Cheese & Onion is the best of the classics!
