Healthier Orange Chicken!

I said healthier, not healthy.

Although tbh guys, tbhI don’t see many problems with it aside from maybe a high-ish sugar content due to the marmalade, but that’s about it.

So enjoy the taste of delicious, succulent, mouthwatering orange chicken – reminiscent of the gloriousness served up to you at the Chinese Takeaway.


Healthier Orange Chicken

Serves: 4              Calories per Serving: 285



450g (about 1lb) Chicken Breast, cut into chunks or strips

1T Dark Soy Sauce

1tsp Ginger, grated/minced

1 clove Garlic, chopped finely

50g (1/3 cup) Cornflour (set 1tsp aside)

1T Vegetable Oil

150ml (1/2 cup + 2T) Orange Juice* (set 1-2T aside)

80g Marmalade

1/4-1/2tsp Salt (or to taste)

* I use orange juice from a carton but I would assume freshly squeezed orange juice would work too.


Marinade the chicken in the soy, ginger and garlic for at least 2 hours.

Coat each piece of the chicken in the cornflour.

Heat up a non-stick pan with 1/2T oil and fry the coated chicken in it until golden and crisped up slightly – and cooked! You will need to do this in 2-3 batches, adding the other 1/2T oil in halfway through. If you crowd the pan the chicken will stick together and not get crispy.

Once the chicken is all cooked set it aside and in a deep pan or wok, add the orange juice, marmalade and salt and heat it on high until bubbling and all the ingredients form a sauce. Then take the saved cornflour and orange juice and mix together to make a paste. Add this to the sauce and let the sauce thicken.

Now add the chicken and coat it in the orange sauce.

Serve with noodles, rice or any other side of choice!


There ya go! Deliciousness in one simple recipe. And healthier so you don’t have to feel any guilt after. 

But then again….. you shouldn’t feel guilty after anything delicious! 😀
